Operational recommendation

The Solo car tracker is super flexible.

Our tracker can be used for most tracking applications, and gives you awesome location results in pretty much any GPS tracking situation. Whether it’s used in a car or any other scenario. However, the same rules apply to this tracker as they do to all GPS tracking devices.

You can use the tracker inside the car or mount it under the car.
In all cases, make sure to position the device with the top side facing out towards the world.
For example: If you place the tracker behind the car’s bumper, the magnetic part should be facing the car’s body, and the top side should face out towards the inside of the bumper. This way, the tracker is actually facing out towards the world, as if the car’s bumper was invisible.

The tracker’s GPS antenna always faces out towards the world EG: If you mounted the tracker under the car, the magnetic side of the tracker should be against the car’s body/chassis, and the top side of the tracker would face the road. The tracker’s antenna is facing outward, so it receives GPS signals bouncing off the road’s surface.

Always avoid having metal in front of the tracking device.
In some cases, the device will still receive GPS signals behind metal, but results will be inaccurate, or performance could be poor. If you have the tracker inside the car, the magnetic side should face the car’s body/floor, and the top side should face out towards the world.
For example: If the tracking device was in the rear luggage compartment, the magnetic side would be facing the car’s spare wheel, and the top side of the tracker would face upwards towards the world. GPS signals would come in through the rear window and be received by the tracker through any parcel shelf or plastic in front of the device.

Avoid stuffing the tracker under the driver’s seat or under the spare wheel.
To make it clear, always aim to have the top side of the tracker facing out towards the sky or the world. You can play around with positioning if you have any issues with tracking location accuracy, etc. Typically, the tracker is accurate up to 5 meters.

Car & vehicle mounting.
Mounting your tracker on a car or vehicle requires following some logical rules. Avoid placing the tracker under a wheel arch, as it could get knocked off. Also, steer clear of putting it on any moving parts under the car, like a suspension arm. Always fit the tracker at the rear of the car, not the front or engine bay. Engines are thick chunks of metal that block GPS signals, so the rear is best for reception. Lastly, avoid putting the tracker on anything that may get hot, such as the exhaust or engine area.

Following this basic guide will vastly improve everything related to the tracking device and increase your chances of performance of the car tracker.

Topping up, tracker sim card & data.
In most cases, customers choose to buy data / sim card credit, when they purchase a device. If you decide to add data to your tracker’s sim card, the product will be ready to go as soon as it arrives.

If you selected a free sim card, you’ll need to add data or credit to it.
You can do this on the provider’s website, depending on which sim card came with your device. We usually recommend using THREE because their data is usually cheaper than other providers. Just make sure you choose the right sim card provider that matches the one that came with your tracker.

You can use most sim card types with your tracker.
If you want to use another sim card you can, you do not have to use the sim card we provide. But remember, the sim card needs to be registered on the network and have data or credit on it to work. To register a new sim card, pop it into a phone first, load it up with credit or data, this can be done on the providers website or with a cash voucher purchased from any local shop, once the sim card is ready, then transfer it to the tracker.

The tracking device will auto configure your provider’s APN, and should work automatically after a few minutes. If the tracker does not work with your new sim card then place it by a window or go for a drive, if the tracker still does not update then you may have to select a different sim card, a sim card that is not compatible with the tracking device. The tracking device uses 3G and 4G sim cards and most mainstream network providers sim cards will work EG: THREE, Vodafone, O2, EE.

On off button & rubber side seal & battery charging.

Located on the side of the tracking device is a rubber seal that can be easily opened to access the SIM card inside. To charge the device’s battery, simply peel back the rubber seal and insert the charging lead. You can use any micro USB lead & standard port on a computer or phone charger to recharge the tracker, as the power rating is a standard 5V DC. It is important not to use a higher voltage than 5V DC, as this could potentially damage the device. Most USB ports operate at 5V DC, ensuring compatibility with the tracker’s charging requirements.

Upon peeling back the rubber seal, you will find two small buttons. The inner first button is for resetting the device, although this action is typically unnecessary. The second button, located closest to the end of the row, is the power button. A quick press of this button will turn the tracker on, indicated by a blue LED and a green flashing LED. The green flashing LED will change patterns once the SIM card acquires the data network, which usually takes about one minute. The blue LED serves as an indicator for the GPS network.
