Spy cameras and hidden cctv
Although some people decry CCTV cameras in town centres as intrusive and reminiscent of Orwell’s Big Brother, we’ve mostly grown used to them and now rely on their footage to help us to solve crimes and find missing people.
While we all know that CCTV cameras are installed along our main roads, in our shopping centres, hospitals and some private spaces, we don’t make much of an effort to look out for and remember the locations of each device. There are laws in the UK to ensure that CCTV cameras are placed appropriately – not in bathrooms or changing rooms, for example – and you need to adhere to these laws too. You can only retain footage from your cameras for as long as you need it for your purposes – so if you have fired a pilfering worker but decided to take no legal action, you must delete the footage.
Motion-activated spy cameras are very different to CCTV cameras. For a start, they are most often covert – they’re designed to be hard to detect with the naked or untrained eye. Hidden cameras are often used to back up CCTV, for example, if there’s a “blind spot” in one area of a workplace or if you really need discretion.
These cameras have become much smaller in recent years, with the advances in technology, so they can be fitted into small household or workplace objects and equipment, like power sockets, USB chargers and so on. They’re also much cheaper than they used to be, bringing more into the domestic consumer sphere rather than just security services.
Cameras can be hidden in almost any household object, including clocks, radios, toys, smoke detectors and passive infra-red motion detectors (PIRs). There are lots of options available so you don’t have to buy an object that’s out of character and risk arousing suspicions in workers or family members.
If you’re looking for intruder alarms, we can supply you with industry-approved alarm systems that feature CCTV and hidden cameras, as well as audio recording devices. All of our systems are fully-approved and we only use approved engineers to install and maintain them.
You can access some cameras remotely
We also supply some systems that allow you to view the cameras and to control them over the internet, which means you don’t have to be in the same country. You could also use standalone DVR-based units for high-definition on-the-spot filming if that’s what you need.
Lots of our covert devices use the GSM mobile phone network so you can livestream video and audio over 3G (what about 4G?). Talk to us about your needs so we can match you up with the perfect system.
Some of the cameras that are on the market have several components to them that you need to put together before activating the device and others are single-piece and self-contained. Whichever device you buy from us, you can be sure that it’s powerful and effective, as well as easy to set up and use. We’re always on hand to offer advice and help if you do run into difficulties with any of our equipment, though.
